As you arrive in Fountainhead Palace and make your way through the area, you'll come upon the Great Carp, a massive carp that patrols the waters of Fountainhead Palace. At one point you'll need to even avoid this great fish underwater as you make your way.

However, did you know that you can actually kill the great beast and that there's a trophy for doing so?

The first thing you'll need to know about killing the great carp is how to get the item that does the deed. Along the floor of Fountainhead Palace you'll find Precious Bait you can eventually feed the carp. But this isn't actually what we're after. What you want is Truly Precious Bait, and there's only two ways to get it. From the Pot Noble in Hirata Estate and the Pot Noble in Fountainhead Palace.

You may have already come across Pot Noble Harunaga in Hirata. He's to the far right on the lake right as you enter the Estate. He wants Treasure Carp scales, and will offer items in exchange. You get these from special illusive creatures known as Treasure Carp of course.

These large fish are found in pools and rivers, but will try to swim away when they spot you, and are sometimes guarded by more aggressive fish. However, if you can reach and kill them, you can obtain their scales.

However another Pot Noble exists named Koremori in Fountainhead Palace. After grappling up to the large stairway (below you should see a Shichimen Warrior) keep the waterfall on your right side and you should see a grappling hook you can jump too.

This will lead you to a path that takes you to Pot Noble Koremori, who like Pot Noble Harunaga, also wants your Treasure Carp scales and will bad mouth the other Pot Noble to try to convince you.

Buy enough items from either and they'll reward you with some Truly Precious Bait specific to each character. Pot Noble Koremori also features two Lapis Lazuli for sale, items needed to achieve the best Prosthetic Upgrades in the game, and you can only find 6 per play through.

Whose you use on the Great Carp will dictate who becomes a carp while the other dies. However, since both achieve the wares of the other upon transformation, it doesn't much matter other than your own wants for their quest ending.

You may see an area of Fountainhead Palace, that at first you won't be able to reach on the far East side. To get to this you'll have to wait until you've gotten to the Palace Grounds Sculptor's Idol.

Head through the building, and once on the other side turn around to find a grapple location on the roof. Once there you should see a tree to grapple to on your left side. From there, simply grapple over to the feeding grounds area and head over to the bell near the water.

Once you've rung the bell, the Great Carp will appear. Here you can choose to feed him Precious Bait which does nothing, or Pot Noble Harunaga or Koremori's Truly Precious Bait.

This will kill the Great Carp and turn whichever Pot Noble's bait you used into a small carp as well. However you won't get the trophy for killing him just yet.

Head to the Guardian Ape's Watering hole Sculptor's Idol to find the corpse of the Great Carp, where you'll receive the trophy and find a strange item, the Great White Whisker.

So you've got this weird whisker. To get rid of it, head back to the feeding grounds. You may have spoken with the NPC nearby who called the great carp his Master. Present this whisker to him as proof that his Master is dead, and he'll be slightly relieved and give you Divine Grass. However upon resting and returning, you'll find his corpse, along with 4 Treasure Carp Scales you can loot off of him. A sad ending for a loyal servant.
