Daily Self Care Checklist: Self Care 101 for Beginners — Miss Tea Positive (1)

Busy schedules and other duties take up the majority of our time during the day. We become so preoccupied with our daily responsibilities that we neglect to look after ourselves, thus affecting our health and productivity. And this is where basic self-care activities prove to be very beneficial.

If you have never intentionally practiced self-care before, things like bubble baths and mani-pedis might seem a little daunting and unnecessary. While these activities are still considered a form of self-care, there is a lot more to self-care than that.

What is Self-Care?

Self-care is prioritizing and taking care of yourself in subtle ways rather than indulging in frequent pleasures. In fact, it includes taking charge of your health in all three major areas of your life: body, mind, and spirit.

The Importance of Self-Care

Self-care activities, even if done in moderation, can help you decrease stress and increase productivity.

You are more conscious of your own needs if you take care of yourself first. As a result, you will feel your best all day long, both at home and at work. Furthermore, you will be able to better care for your loved ones.

Types of Self-Care

Activities that promote self-care can help you enhance your overall health and well-being. It does, however, involve the integration of body, mind, and spirit.

Each one of these areas of self-care has an effect on the others. When you improve in one area of self-care, the other ones will automatically improve as well.

As a result, achieving overall well-being requires a balance of all 5 types of self-care practices.

The five types of self-care practices to care for your mind, body, and spirit are as follows:

  • Physical self-care

  • Emotional self-care

  • Social self-care

  • Intellectual self-care and

  • Spiritual self-care

Now that you understand what self-care is, why it is important, and what types of self-care practices exist, it is time to put them into practice - starting with a basic self-care checklist.

“Honestly, self-care is not fluffy. It’s something we should take seriously.”

Daily Self Care Checklist

Here's a daily self-care checklist that includes 21 simple daily life practices that you need to incorporate into your daily routine to take care of yourself.

1. Make Sure You Stay Hydrated

Adequate water intake helps speed up your metabolism and attentiveness.

Furthermore, drinking water first thing in the morning promotes healthy weight loss, among other benefits.

To stay hydrated, drink at least 7-8 glasses of water daily.

2. Write a Daily To-Do List

A list of tasks, activities, and events that you need to do in a day should be included in your daily to-do list. A to-do list will help you schedule your day better and direct you to complete your tasks.

Also, while creating the list, be sure to consider your priorities and set realistic goals.

It is preferable to jot it down on paper or in a bullet journal as it will put you at peace.

Stretching isn't only for athletes; we all need to stretch a little bit every day. If you haven't already, start with the basics. Stretching exercises on a regular basis will keep your muscles flexible and healthy.

Yoga is also an excellent way to stretch and strengthen your body. It offers a lot more benefits. Although, certain yoga poses may take years to master.

4. Look Through Some Inspirational Quotes

When you're feeling sad or just need some inspiration, quotes might help you stay motivated and cheerful.

Besides, there are numerous quotes for every one of us on social media. So, make a quote collection (of quotes that inspire you) and look through it when you start your day or pretty much any time you need a confidence boost.

5. Look Good, Feel Good

Dress up!! Yes, you read that right.

Style your outfit, apply some makeup, fix your hair, and put on a nice pair of shoes. This little gesture can make you feel a world of difference. It lures your brain by tweaking your posture and making you feel beautiful.

So, make an effort to look good so that you can feel good!

Also when you're staying at home, changing into nice and clean clothes would have the same effect.

6. Practice Mindful Eating

To get the appropriate nutrients your body needs, you must eat a well-balanced diet on a regular basis.

You should be conscious of what you eat. So, eat more of what your body requires rather than what it craves!! By consuming junk food, you put yourself at risk for a number of diseases.

Also, avoid skipping breakfast as you'll be more likely to munch on unhealthy items later in the day.

7. Take Frequent Breaks

When at work, consider stepping away from your desk for a few minutes once in a while. This brief pause will allow you to unwind and rejuvenate. Perhaps go for a little walk or stretch.

In fact, you can set reminders to take physical and mental breaks throughout the day.

Allow yourself to be pampered when it comes to your skin. Taking care of your skin is just as essential as taking care of the rest of your body.

9. Get a Power Nap

After the first half of your day, take a power nap. A 20-minute snooze will help you recharge your energy and increase your productivity. It will help you in concentrating more effectively.

10. Enjoy a Hot Cup of Tea

Drinking tea can help you reduce your daily stress. It can naturally support you in living a healthy lifestyle.

In fact, merely holding a hot cup of tea in your hand may bring you comfort. In a troubled world, it will feel like a secure base.

11. Keep Your Body Moving

It's all well and good if you exercise frequently.

If you don't have time to exercise, at the very least move your body while still doing your tasks.

Well, how?

Engage in some light physical activities such as moving around the place, cleaning, organizing your desk, walking instead of taking a cab to cover shorter distances, and so on.

12. Take a Walk after Eating

After you've finished your meal, take a lovely walk in the park or around the neighborhood. Perhaps during your lunch break at work or after supper, depending on your schedule. It's yet another way to spend some time in nature while still getting some exercise.

13. Enjoy Your Favorite Music Playlist (or Podcast)

Listen to your favorite music while going for a stroll or traveling. It is also a good excuse to listen to your favorite podcast.

So, try unplugging for a while. Perhaps before bedtime!

Turn off all of your electronic devices at least 30 minutes before going to bed. It will prevent you from overthinking later.

15. Receive Adequate Sleep

Lack of sleep compels you to hit the snooze button, again and again, jeopardizing your morning. Also, to work efficiently during the day, you must obtain adequate sleep.

So, make sure to practice proper sleep hygiene and receive 7-9 hours of sleep daily.

Adopting a healthy night routine will help you achieve restful sleep regularly if you suffer from sleep problems.

Considering our hectic lives - self-reflection isn't something easy to indulge in. However, it is tremendously beneficial.

19. Perform Meditation

Meditation is a simple yet effective technique of de-stressing. Even a 20-minute guided meditation, regardless of the type of meditation you choose, can be therapeutic.

Aside from the health benefits, everyday meditation can also help you work more efficiently.

20. Brain Dump Exercise

Brain dumping is a really cool journaling technique for clearing your mind and releasing thoughts.
